Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said he was “still processing” the news of Michigan coach Sherrone Moore’s firing for an inappropriate relationship with a staff member and subsequent criminal charges. Harbaugh answered questions about the incident during a press appearance on Friday. Harbaugh stated that one of his equipment guys, Chad Jessop had told him about the situation as we left the field on Friday. “I am still processing this like many other people.” Harbaugh brought Moore on board his Michigan staff as tight end coach in 2018. Moore was promoted in 2021 to co-offensive coordination and took on sole play-calling duties in 2023. Moore was Michigan’s interim head coach during the 2023 campaign after Harbaugh had been suspended for three games as a result of the Big Ten investigation into Michigan’s sign-stealing incident. Harbaugh & Moore led Michigan’s 15-0 season in 2023. The win over Washington in the College Football Playoff National Championship. Moore was named Harbaugh’s successor by Michigan when Harbaugh returned to the NFL in 2024 with the Chargers.
Moore had a record of 15-8 in two seasons at Michigan. Moore was suspended from two games by the University of Michigan in 2025 for his role in the scheme to steal signs. Moore, who was 39 years old, was fired without cause on 10th December. Warde Manuel, athletic director at the University of Michigan, confirmed that Moore was terminated due to his “inappropriate relationship” with a member of staff.Moore was arrested immediately after his termination and on Friday was given three charges including felony house invasion by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office. He is accused “of unlawfully entering the victim’s home to commit the crime stalking, and committing this crime while inside the residence.”
He was also accused of stalking and entering without breaking the law, both of which are misdemeanors.
