Jamie Carragher: Arne Slot’s job at Liverpool not untenable yet but results might be a gli

Jamie Carragher says Arne Slot’s position is not untenable yet but reckons Liverpool are potentially seeing a glimpse of their future without Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson. Liverpool lost 4-1 at home to PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday in the Champions League.
Sky Sports’ Carragher, however, believes that Slot is still in the game.

“Liverpool is not a club that fires its players,” Carragher told CBS Sports.”Liverpool is different from most clubs in European football where the manager reigns supreme and managers are given time. Liverpool has never fired any manager who won the Premier League. Never, in history. They’ve left after a few months, and resigned.
“I could not believe that at the weekend people were talking about a manager’s role when I spoke with Liverpool fans after they had lost a home match to Nottingham Forest. It will only get worse.

“I have always believed that you should stick with your manager because I am angry at the players. I am really angry with them. It does reach a point with any manager, at any club, where I use the word untenable. At this stage, it feels as if it cannot continue.
“I haven’t reached that point yet in terms of my personal opinion, but I do know that a lot more supporters will.”Liverpool’s aging backbone has been exposed in this season’s matches. Van Dijk conceded the penalty against PSV, while Salah failed to score again or provide an assist. Goalkeeper Alisson was absent. Carragher believes the other players have not stepped up.”This may be a snapshot of Liverpool in the future, when Mo Salah leaves, Virgil van Dijk leaves, and Alisson leaves,” he said.”Liverpool starts its journey as a great team in 2018 under Klopp and seven years later Slot takes over.Alisson Van Dijk and Salah was the catalyst for Liverpool to start that run. Alisson has been injured so much that he isn’t playing as often. Van Dijk, the player you see now, isn’t the same, and Salah appears to have lost his legs.”I do not like to criticize them and I believe that some of the criticism they have received this season has been harsh. When things don’t go well, you look for the leaders of your team to step in.”Now, I’ve criticised Salah off-the-pitch. I would like to see him do an exclusive interview on TV tonight.
