The Irishman, who has won nine out of 10 UFC matches to date, is now chasing the welterweight championship on the largest stage in mixed martial art. The Irishman is currently No. 6 in the rankings for 170 pounds.
After his main event win over Carlos Prates, Garry’s UFC Qatar co-headliner against Belal Muhammad on Saturday offers him the chance to record a second standout victory of 2025 and stake his claim for a shot at Islam Makhachev.
As it stands, taking the throne that the Dagestani recently acquired is at the top of Garry’s to-do list. But among the 28-year-old’s other objectives is a surprise professional career in another sport.

Ian Machado Garry has set his sights on a golf career after MMA
Some of the most common career paths for top fighters who retire from MMA include coaching and media roles, such as commentary.
Garry plans, however, to switch the combat gloves for golfing clubs.
In an interview with GamesHub, ‘The Future’ revealed his passion for golf when his time is not occupied by the sport he is currently a pro in.
This ex-Cage Warriors champ is full of confidence in his career and it’s evident that this confidence has spread to all his other sports.
“I wanna nail down every single day, consistently with a golf club in my hand,”Garry said. “I want to have a helicopter that I travel the world playing golf in, and I would love to go professional in golf.
“I’m playing off four and I started during COVID, so a little bit of consistency and just, every single day adding to that, I know what I can do. When I set my mind to it, I am able to achieve anything.
“I’m not talking about the PGA, I’m talking about senior-level pro stuff, it could be anything. But I am going to earn an income from playing professional golf when I’m finished with fighting and it’s gonna be the rest of my life traveling the world,”He also added.
