Game 1 of 2025 World Series has been completed. The Blue Jays beat the Dodgers by a score of 11-4. It’s possible that the score of this game is misleading. The Dodgers were in control early on. Through five innings, the game was still tied. It got out of control quickly. The Blue Jays had an eight-run sixth inning. It was the biggest World Series game since the 1968 Tigers scored 10 runs in the third inning of Game 6. In Game 4, the 1929 Philadelphia A’s scored 10 runs in the seventh inning. These are the only two instances in which a World Series team scored more runs than the Blue Jays did in Game 1 of 2025. Let’s go through each inning, one batter at a time, to see how the Jays increased their chances of winning from 57.4% to almost 100%. It was 2-2 through 5 ½ innings. Blue Jays were up to bat at the bottom of the 6th against Dodgers Ace Blake Snell.
Bo Bichette’s walk added 5.1% to Blue Jays win probability. Jays win probability: 62.5%Alejandro Kirk singled, Jays win probability: 69.5%Daulton Varsho was hit by a pitch. Jays win probabilities: 79.1% Ernie Clement scored a run by single. This was the first time the Blue Jays had led a World Series match since Joe Carter won the Fall Classic in this building with a homer in 1993. Jays win probabilities: 87.9% Nathan Lukes walked and scored another run. Blue Jays are now up 4-2. Jays win probability: 93.2%Andrés Giménez singled, scoring another run to make it 5-2 Jays. Jays’ win probability is 96.3%. George Springer grounded. Baseball is funny. Springer was one of the most prolific power hitters in postseason history, but he wasn’t allowed to play in this monster inning. Addison Barger had a pinch-hit grand. It was the very first pinch-hit grand slam ever in a World Series. It was a big blow, even though the Jays had a good chance of winning before Barger’s swing. They were now 9-2 ahead. Jays win probabilities: 99.9%
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled. Alejandro Kirk’s two-run homer came after the second out. Not long after the match was tied at 2, it was 11-2.
A play never seen before was witnessed in one of the most memorable innings ever played in a World Series. It was not a close match, but Game 1 of 2025 World Series had some memorable moments.
