Heavyweight who saved UFC Qatar main card fight weighs in straight after landing from 18-hour flight

Waldo Cortes Acosta did not have time to settle down.

The Dominican heavyweight cemented his spot high up the rankings at UFC Vegas 110 earlier this month, where he landed a controversial win over champion Tom Aspinall’s teammate.

Cortes-Acosta knocked Ante Delija out after the Croatian thought he’d secured his own finish. However, that sequence was ruled a timeout following a deep poke to the eye.

‘Salsa Boy’ displayed a damaged-looking eye in the aftermath of that fight, but he has evidently recovered in time to save the day at UFC Qatar this Saturday

Replacing the injured Serghei Spivac, Cortes-Acosta is fighting Shamil Gaziev on just two days’ notice.
