Indiana kept its perfect record after a 31-7 victory against Wisconsin on Saturday. Fernando Mendoza set a record for the most touchdowns in a season with four. His 30 touchdowns placed him ahead Kellen Lewis who had 28 in 2007 The junior’s efficiency will boost his Heisman trophy campaign. Indiana was holding a three point lead at halftime. He was 22 of 24 for 299 yard. Bloomington’s fans may have felt anxious after last week’s nail-biter. But the Hoosiers began the third with a 75-yard, nine-play drive that ended with Mendoza passing to Holden Staes for a two yard score. The Hoosiers were able to cruise from there. Head coach Curt Cignetti was not surprised by the team’s 11-0 record. The post-game celebrations of Curt Cignetti were a little muted, he was focused on the future. Indiana will play Purdue for the Old Oaken Bucket on Nov. 28, and the winner gets it the following year. Hoosiers defeated Boilermakers 66-0 in 2024. Some residual anger may remain from that beating. Purdue (2-8), which is currently ranked second, has nothing to lose but its rival’s flawless record.
