Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered a dominant performance on Saturday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-1 in Game 2 of the World Series at Rogers Centre. The result leveled the best-of-seven series at one game apiece after Toronto’s emphatic 11-4 win in the opener just one day prior.Yamamoto allowed just four hits while striking out eight across nine innings. It was the most complete performance of a World Series starting pitcher since Kansas’s in 2015. City’s Johnny Cueto went nine in a win over the New York Mets. The Rogers Centre was quieted in the Rogers Centre’s first inning when Will Smith hit a single to center, bringing Freddie Freeman to home. Toronto tied it up in the third, when Alejandro Kirk’s sacrifice fly scored George Springer. Los Angeles then regained the lead in the seventh. Smith hit a home run to left-field that was 404 feet long. Max Muncy then followed suit with a similar shot. Los Angeles Dodgers won Game 2 over Toronto Blue Jays thanks to Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Toronto couldn’t match Yamamoto’s impressive pitching. The World Series moves to Los Angeles Monday night for Game 3. Andy Pages scored after a Jeff Hoffman wild pitch. Mookie Betts advanced to second, and Shohei Ahtani moved to third. Smith then grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Ohtani to score while Freeman was forced out at second.‘I was executing my pitches out there well today,’ Yamamoto told Fox’s Tom Verducci afterwards. The Japanese ace retired the final 20 batters that he faced. The result came after the Blue Jays took Game 1 with an 11-4 win on Friday night, powered by Addison Barger’s historic pinch-hit grand slam in a nine-run sixth inning.A StandUpToCancer campaign was held during the game, with fans at Rogers Centre holding up signs naming loved ones affected by the disease as part of Major League Baseball’s annual awareness drive. The World Series now shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Monday night, with the Dodgers looking to build on Yamamoto’s dominant outing.
