Dodgers’ World Series lineup ‘might look a little bit different’ for Game 5, teases manager Dave Roberts

Dave Roberts, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ manager, hinted that his team may make lineup changes in the future after their 6-2 loss against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. Roberts told reporters that he would consider making changes to his batting orders ahead of the Game 5 if he were asked. I will think hard about it, and maybe tomorrow the order may be different. This is an unexpected problem for a team who led the National League during the regular-season in OPS, home runs, and runs scored. They were second in MLB in these categories only to the New York Yankees. These trends have not been carried into the World Series which is currently tied at 2-2. Roberts stated that the team has not yet found its rhythm in their offensive performance. “We haven’t. There are certain places in the lineup where it’s dead. And there are different spots, innings, and games. Guys are competing. In the postseason you will see everyone at their best.

I hope we can regroup tomorrow and gather all the information we have. [Trey] When we see the fastball coming, it’s important to really take advantage of it.”Through the first four series games, the Dodgers have scored 17 runs. This doesn’t seem like a bad total until you realize that Game 3 was 18 innings long. Dodgers are hitting.214/.315/.377 overall in the World Series and.207/.294/.207 if there are runners on base. Roberts says that’s not normal and is why he’s considering making changes. At an individual level, Mookie Betts, Andy Pages, Tommy Edman, and Kiké Hernández — that’s almost half the lineup – have struggled badly. This quartet combined for just a slash of.147/.203/.162. Even if the rest is good, you can’t score many runs when that’s all around. It will be interesting to see how Roberts handles Betts who has batted at No. The No. 2 spot has been occupied by Shohei Ahtani, the leadoff man in all playoff games and nearly every regular season game.

Roberts will push all the buttons he can in order to get more offense from a lineup Toronto has largely tamed. This is not necessarily a sign of L.A.’s desperation — after all the series has been tied — but that they need to improve, or things could get worse for the defending champions.
