In the early part of this year, it appeared that Ilia topuria and Islam Makhachev were on a collision path.
The former featherweight champion moved up to lightweight and set his eyes on the 155lb belt possessed by Khabib Nurmagomedov’s protege – but they didn’t stay in the same division for very long.
Makhachev vacates his lightweight belt and moves up to welterweight. He will fight Jack Della Maddalena (170lb) at UFC 322 in November. Topuria, in his absence at UFC 317 last June, knocked out Charles Oliveira and claimed the vacant lightweight belt.
