College Football Playoff expert picks: Notre Dame vs. Miami vs. Alabama

The 2025 College has a few spots available for at-large candidates Football The Playoff is up for grabs. Don’t expect the 12 p.m. Sunday release to be a final score. ET release on Dec. 7, ESPN, will not be able to settle the score. The biggest debate of the 11th hour is this year between Notre Dame and Miami, old rivals who also played in this season.  The CFP Selection Committee must weigh several factors of concern as it sets a 12-team bracket. It will pay particular attention to what is happening in Charlotte, where Duke (7-5) is playing to make a CFP case. Alabama played itself out of Big Dance? BYU, what about them? The Hurricanes have climbed the rankings every week, as teams ahead of them lost. The CFP Selection Committee always kept one team between them, with two committee chairmen explaining to reporters that head-tos-head results is only one of the data points it uses when seeding teams. To put it another way, the CFP Selection Committee has not compared Notre Dame to Miami until now.  Hunter Yurachek, chairman of the committee on Tuesday, said: “It is easier to use this data point when the teams are in a back-to-back situation than when they are separated by two or three teams as it has been.” We’ll have to wait and see what the committee decides to do when Notre Dame is back-to-back with Miami, as expected after BYU’s loss.
