Carlos Ulberg ruled out until 2027: Doctor diagnoses serious injury using UFC 327 footage

Carlos Ulberg is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, according to a sports medicine doctor.

The new light heavyweight champion overcame a serious knee injury to knock out Jiri Prochazka at UFC 327 on Saturday night.

Post-fight, Doctor Brian Sutterer shared his thoughts on Carlos Ulberg‘s injury in a YouTube video.

Watch a doctor dissect Carlos Ulberg’s injury

Brian Sutterer diagnosed Carlos Ulberg after watching slow-motion footage of the moment his knee popped at UFC 327.

The physician does not doubt that Ulberg has suffered an ACL tear that will require surgery and sideline him for the rest of 2026.

“That injury that Ulberg suffered is almost certainly going to keep him out for a very long time. It’s not his Achilles, it’s something more serious in his knee,” Sutterer said.

“This is pathognomonic of an ACL tear. I would be stunned [if it’s not]. There is nothing else that is going to cause the tibia to shift forward internally like that and then pop backwards other than an ACL tear.

“This is almost certainly going to be a surgical injury. I’d be surprised if we see him fighting in nine to 12 months, which is really a shame when you’ve just acquired a new title.”

Jiri Prochazka explains how Carlos Ulberg’s injury led to him losing

Jiri Prochazka has requested a rematch and blamed his UFC 327 KO loss on ‘stupid mercy’.

The 33-year-old says his mindset changed after noticing Carlos Ulberg had suffered a serious injury during their fight.

“Thank you for all of your support. We are just checking the jaw in hospital,” he said in a video shared to his Instagram story.

“Big apologies for my performance. I still can’t understand my stupid mercy in the fight that cost me this fight. I would like to fight a rematch, because that was my fight.

“I just gave him this opportunity to catch me. Big apologies to everyone who supported me.”
