C.J. Stroud injury: Texans QB (concussion) ruled out, Davis Mills to start vs. Bills

For the third straight week, Davis Mills will be under center for the Houston Texans as starting quarterback C.J. Stroud has been ruled Thursday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills in Houston due to the concussion he suffered during the Week 9 loss vs. the Denver Broncos. The news was announced by Texans’ coach DeMeco Ryans on Tuesday. Stroud returned to the practice field Tuesday, as he continues his concussion recovery protocol. He will not be able to play on Thursday night. Ryans informed reporters that Stroud is “progressing well” but did have a short week and would not be able to face Buffalo. Houston hopes that Stroud will be able to return in time for the divisional matchup against the Indianapolis Colts on November 30, which is a crucial game.

Mills has led the Texans to back-to-back victories over the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans to get Houston to 5-5 on the season and keep playoff hopes alive. Mills completed 60.0% on his passes, resulting in 726 yards and three touchdowns. He also had one interception. Mills has been 4-1 in four of his career starts. However, the Bills are the biggest threat to the Texans since Stroud was injured. FanDuel has the Bills as 5.5-point favorites on the road despite recent defensive struggles.

Buffalo has conceded 30+ points in each game of the past two, and Mills will be hoping to continue that and get Houston above the.500 mark for the very first time this season.
