Best NFL Week 9 picks and predictions: Top bets and underdogs to back

The NFL Week 9 schedule is as packed as the Halloween leftovers. The most noteworthy of all is the latest chapter between Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs when Buffalo plays the Chiefs in Highmark Stadium. The late-night games will be dominated by the matchup between Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. However, the early window is also packed with action, including the Vikings versus Lions from Detroit, Patriots vs Falcons, two of the best defenses in football, Broncos vs Texans, and the Patriots versus the Falcons. You need to make your bets before you can relax, enjoy your Reece’s peanut butter cups, or unwrap the latest Reece’s. If you’ve been too busy celebrating the holiday to think about the weekend’s best bets, we can help. Here are our picks and best bets from Week 9. Teams with bye weeks in Week 9: Cleveland, New York (Jets), Philadelphia, and Tampa Bay.NFL odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook. Jacobybrissett, who is playing despite Kyler Murray’s injury, can still exploit Dallas’ weak defense. Cowboys have allowed opponents to record a passer rating of 112.0 this season, the lowest in the league. With Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey McBride in the fold, Brissett has plenty of weapons to do damage and have Dallas on upset alert. Arizona has a solid defense. If they can stifle Dak Prescott and Co., even by a little bit, the Cardinals could win. Arizona may have lost five straight games, but they’ve had a good run for bettors, with a 3-2 record ATS.  Fubo, try for free)| Fubo, try for free)
J.J. McCarthy will be making his Minnesota return this coming week. I’ll believe that when I see it. Kevin O’Connell has painted McCarthy into a tight corner, even though he’s not convinced he’s thrilled to be putting his young QB out there. Outside of a fourth-quarter run against the Bears in Week 1, McCarthy has seven quarters of bad football on his short résumé. McCarthy’s short resume includes a Week 2, where he failed to lead the Vikings past double-digits points, throwing two interceptions and fumbling three times (one of which was lost).

Now he is supposed to get back in the saddle and take on a Lions’ team that has won four consecutive home games — all by a minimum of 15 points. Detroit will also average 36.7 points per contest at Ford Field by 2025. The Lions have been 4-0 as favorites this season and I expect them to continue that streak.

Agent’s Take – Did the Vikings overestimate their quarterback decision by committing to J.J. McCarthy at full strength?

It’s not that I trust the Jaguars. They have a good 4-3 record, and they are still in the AFC’s playoff race. Trevor Lawrence is a big part of my skepticism, as he has not impressed me with his passing skills in 2025. Lawrence’s current passer rating is 80.6, the lowest since his freshman season. Lawrence’s offensive line has also not done him any favors. This is a major factor in his 20 sacks this season. Raiders are in a good position to pull off an upset at home with Maxx crosby, who is ready to wreck havoc from the edge. Geno Smith isn’t doing well in 2025 but he has also had to play with his hands tied because Brock Bowers, the tight end who was injured last week, has been limited. Bowers and wideout Jakobi Meyers are expected to return this week. This should give the Raiders passing attack some juice.

Jayden Daniels will also be returning this week. This should lift the spirits of the Commanders, who are currently 3-5 for the year. Will it be enough to propel them to victory? I am sceptical, especially when it comes to an underrated Seahawks team. Seattle ranks in the top 10 of NFL teams in terms of points scored and points allowed per game (27.6), as well as yards per play (6.0) and yards allowed per play (4.7). Washington’s defensive weaknesses could be revealed in this match. In their last three matches, the Commanders have allowed a league high 32.3 points and opponents’ quarterbacks average a 111.2 passer score. Sam Darnold’s and Jax Smith-Njigba’s combination of skills could shine in primetime. Seattle is 3-0 this year in terms of straight ups and ATS. This is not a good thing, but it is still a safe bet. Seahawks 30 Commanders 24 The pick: Seahawks-3Sunday 1 p.m.| Fubo, try for free)
What percentage of Houston’s resurgence can be attributed to the Texans flipping a light switch and what percent is due to injuries finally catching San Francisco 49ers up? This weekend I expect to find out more about the latter. Houston’s rout last week is notable because C.J. Stroud remained unharmed in the match with zero sacks. It’s difficult to imagine it happening again. The third-year quarterback is likely to face another assault, especially against the Broncos. Denver is the NFL’s top team with 36 sacks this season. That’s 10 more than anyone else.

In addition to chasing down the quarterback, the defense must exploit a major weakness in the Texans offensive system: the red zone’s efficiency. Houston only scores touchdowns on 42.1% red zone trips. This is the second lowest rate in the league. Denver has a red zone defence that allows touchdowns only on 40% of opponent trips. This is the NFL’s second-best. The spread is a bit smaller than it appears. This game could be more lopsided. Projected score : Broncos 24, Texans 20, The pick: Broncos +1.5%Rest of the bunchBears vs. BengalsProjected Score: Bengals 27, Bears 24,The pick : Bengals +2.5Panthers vs. PackersProjected Score: Packers 33, Panthers 17,The pick : Packers -13.5Chargers vs. TitansProjected Score: Chargers 28 Titans 14,The pick : Chargers
