B/R’s 2025 College Football Winners and Losers from Week 12

In January, after a tumultuous close to the football season of 2024, South Carolina’s Shane Beamer extended his contract through 2030. In the early stages, his name was mentioned as a possible candidate to return to Blacksburg to replace his father who was a legendary football coach.

He should now be in the hot seat.

Following Saturday’s historic collapse at Texas A&M, the Gamecocks are 3-7 and just 1-7 in the SEC.

Beamer has one of college football’s most exciting players in LaNorris Solers, but he has seen his performance as a quarterback deteriorate and he is making very little impact this year as a runner. Beamer has just let go of offensive coordinator Mike Shula.

Beamer, who was smug in an interview with ESPN during the first half, said that his Gamecocks had led 30-3 to halftime. They also boasted that they “beat this team by 24 point last year” and that it wasn’t their intention to just come into College Station, but rather compete.

But Mike Elko thoroughly out-coached Beamer throughout the second half, and no matter what he did, he couldn’t slow the gaping, bleeding wound once A&M began its comeback.

South Carolina must be wondering how much longer they can put up with this. He is now 32-29 for his career, and has a record of 16-24 in the SEC. This is not the type of record that will earn you respect and comfort as a coach.
