Islam Makhachev has discredited the role that Charles Oliveira will be playing in Ian Machado Garry’s fight camp.
On August 15, Ian Machado Garry will finally fight for the welterweight title when he takes on Islam Makhachev in the UFC 330 main event.
Ahead of his title fight against the dominant Russian, Machado Garry has claimed that he has the toughest task for any challenger ever.
Despite that, Makhachev’s head coach has potentially offered the Irishman some relief, teasing a surprise no-takedown strategy.
Makhachev discredits Charles Oliveira’s part in Machado Garry’s camp
Ever since he joined the UFC, ‘The Future’ has never fought out of one specific gym, and he has always attempted to travel round gyms to learn as much as possible.
However, over the last few years, he has built up a relationship and somewhat of a home at Chute Boxe academy in Brazil, where he has become teammates with Charles Oliveira.
That is a partnership that could benefit him when he comes to fight Makhachev in Philadelphia, as ‘Do Bronx’ has already shared the cage with the Russian.
And despite having been submitted by him in round two of their 2022 lightweight title fight, the Brazilian may be able to provide Machado Garry with some first hand planning.
Makhachev, though, has discredited the potential value of training with Oliveira ahead of their clash, taking a shot at his former opponent.
“Everything is going very well, we’ve been staying at the same gym in New Jersey,” Makhachev told MMAFighting regarding his own preparation.
“This is just like a regular opponent, it’s not anything between countries but still, we are 2-0 (in Dagestan vs Ireland matchups), we’re gonna make it 3-0.
“Yeah, Charles is gonna teach him how to tap fast, that’s it,” Makhachev continued.

Machado Garry is somewhat hopeful of showcasing his grappling defense and offense against the best in the game.
The 28-year-old recently claimed that he wants to beat Makhachev at his own game and is not looking for a quick finish and is instead hoping to dominate the champion for four rounds before finishing him.
And the Irishman is receiving surprise backing from former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, who has backed him to become the new champion.
