Eddie Hearn was not the first to enquire about managing the UFC heavyweight champion.
The MMA and boxing worlds had their eyebrows raised by a big announcement on Thursday surrounding Tom Aspinall.
Amid the feud between the Zuffa Boxing and Matchroom Boxing chiefs, Hearn has signed Aspinall to his talent agency.
Many have described the move as a fitting response to Dana White adding Conor Benn to Zuffa Boxing’s roster after the British star’s lengthy stint in Matchroom Boxing. But the back and forth with the UFC president is not the only intriguing part of the announcement.

Many managers failed to acquire Tom Aspinall before Eddie Hearn succeeded
In convincing Aspinall to sign with the Matchroom Talent Agency, Hearn achieved a feat that plenty of managers have reportedly failed to over the years.
Shortly after news emerged about the commercial and advisory deal, which will see Hearn and his team now handling Aspinall’s business dealings inside and outside of fighting, reporter Ariel Helwani provided extra details on the situation.
The Canadian journalist noted that the UFC heavyweight champ has turned down a number of advances from managers in the past in favor of keeping his business dealings within his team.
Hearn was somehow able to make a pitch that convinced Aspinall to change that stance.
“A unique thing about Tom Aspinall is that he has not had a manager,” Helwani said on social media.
“And trust me, every manager under the sun has tried to sign him. He’s had his dad represent him. Some way, somehow, Eddie convinced him that he would be the best guy and that he’s well suited to negotiate.
“After one announcement, Eddie is now the most qualified manager in combat sports—maybe even overqualified, given what he’s done over the last 25 years,” he added.
