Charles Oliveira: Why I outrank Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev on the 155lb GOAT

Charles Oliveira has explained why he’s the best lightweight in UFC history.

Khabib Nurmagomedov was widely regarded as the greatest 155lb fighter of all time when he retired with a perfect 29-0 record in 2020.

Since then, Islam Makhachev has set a UFC record for lightweight title defenses (4) to rival his teammate in the division’s GOAT debate.

Charles Oliveira believes he has the best resume at lightweight

Charles Oliveira was asked how his resume compares to two other great lightweights ahead of UFC 326.

‘Do Bronx’ is gearing up to face Max Holloway in a BMF title fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

“Each and every one of us has their moments and their eras,” he told Paramount via a translator.

“You talk about Khabib, who basically just stepped away from the game undefeated.

“Islam is making history as a two-weight champion, but when you look at the resume, the names, the wins, the records, and what I’ve been through, I believe my resume is the best.”

What is Charles Oliveira’s lightweight record?

Charles Oliveira has spent a lot of his UFC career fighting in the featherweight division.

However, the 36-year-old has managed to have 24 fights at lightweight, where he has flourished.

17 wins, 6 losses, 1 no contest is Oliveira’s 155lb record heading into UFC 326 this weekend.

11 of those victories came in succession as he surged up the rankings, became a champion, and defended his title.

It’s clear Oliveira is one of the best lightweight fighters we’ve ever seen, but he’s not the best.

Khabib Nurmagomedov wasn’t around as long, but he was perfect throughout his MMA career.

Islam Makhachev has looked unbeatable since suffering a shock KO loss in his second UFC fight.

Oliveira can go some way to closing the gap by adding Max Holloway and the BMF belt to his stacked resume.
