Lance Gibson Jr. competes in the UFC nearly 25 years after father
At the beginning of fight week, this fight wasn’t part of the card, however, it was announced by the promotion this past Tuesday that fan-favorite Green would welcome the Canadian to the Octagon.
Gibson Jr. is gaining his experience at Muckleshoot Fighting Night after his release from Bellator, in 2022.
During his time in Bellator, ‘Fearless’ went 5-1 and was seemingly on the edge of a lightweight title shot before losing to Vladimir Tokov.
Gibson Jr. won’t be the first of his family to compete in the premier MMA promotion, though, as almost 25 years ago to the date of his fight, his father Lance Gibson Sr. competed under the UFC banner.
Gibson Sr. competed twice in the UFC. He won against Jermaine andre before losing to Evan Tanner. His professional record was 4-5.
“It’s really crazy, I mean, I’m a very spiritual person and I always talk about synchronicities and it’s real, it’s meant to happen that way,”He told Home of Fight.
“It’s weird the weird connections are obviously meant to be, so I’m thankful for the blessing,”He continued.
The Gibsons are the third father/son combination to compete in UFC
Gibson Jr.’s fight will go down in the history books as it will mark the third time in the promotion’s history that a father and son combo has competed under the UFC banner.
