NFL flexes Week 16 schedule, moves Patriots-Ravens into Sunday night

The NFL has changed the schedule for week 16. The New England Patriots’ Dec. 21 road game against the Baltimore Ravens has been flexed into the Sunday night spot, while the Cincinnati Bengals’ showdown in Miami against the Dolphins has been moved from Sunday night to a 1 p.m. ET kickoff. Clearly, the records each team had influenced the decision of the league. The Patriots, with a record of 11-2, currently hold the best in the league and are competing to be the top seed for the AFC heading into the playoffs. While the Ravens have a dismal 6-7 record, they are still only one game behind the Steelers after their loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday. Miami and Cincinnati have a chance to make the playoffs but neither team has won a game in the first 14 weeks of the season. The Dolphins will face the Steelers on Monday night with a record of 6-7 after winning their four most recent games. Cincinnati has a 4-9 record after losing to the Bills in a close game on Sunday. They are trying catch New England at the top of the AFC East standings.

The Bengals-Dolphins matchup should be full of intrigue, despite the fact that the two quarterbacks chosen in the 2020 NFL Draft are Joe Burrow (the first) and TuaTagovailoa (the second). Burrow has won two Comeback Player awards and one Super Bowl trip in his career. Tagovailoa was the league’s top completion percentage leader last year and won a passing title for Miami in 2023. Both quarterbacks also had to deal with various injuries in their first six years. New England will be facing Baltimore with two of the most prominent quarterbacks, Drake Maye and Lamar Jackson. Jackson, a two-time MVP of the league, is the favorite to win this award. Maye and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will also be in the running.

This week, the Patriots are playing their fourth primetime game in this season. They’re on the verge of clinching a playoff spot for the first time since 2021.
