Daniel Jones injury update: Colts QB out for rest of season with torn Achilles

ESPN reports that the Indianapolis Colts are going to have to play out their season without their starting quarterback Daniel Jones, who suffered a torn achilles in their Week 14 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts lost 36-19. Jones, who was already suffering from a left-fibula injury on Sunday, tore the Achilles of his right leg while attempting a pass in the 1st quarter. Jones was able limp to the locker room on his own, but the Colts did not hesitate to declare him out.
Jones’ comeback story was one of the most impressive in the NFL this season. The Colts started 7-1. Jones has thrown five interceptions during this span. The Colts are now in a quandary as to who will be their next quarterback. Riley Leonard, the rookie who replaced Jones at center on Sunday completed 18 of 29 pass attempts for 145 yard and one interception. He also scored a touchdown on stumbling. Then there’s Anthony Richardson, the former No. 4 overall pick who is currently on injured reserve after he suffered an orbital fracture during pregame warmups in mid-October. He lost out to Jones as the Indy starter in this year’s preseason and has a 8-7 record.

Colts, once considered to be the best NFL team ever, are now 8-5 and it is not a guarantee that they will make the playoffs. Indy has lost the AFC South title after losing to Jacksonville in Sunday’s game. They also have one of NFL’s toughest schedules left.
