Despite having come so close to a UFC welterweight title shot, one of the division’s contenders is considering a surprise move down to lightweight.
Only a few short weeks ago, UFC 322 was held at Madison Square Garden. The welterweights were the main attraction.
Islam Makhachev, who defeated Jack Della Maddalena to win the main fight, became the new champ.
On the same card, Michael Morales and Carlos Prates, both welterweights, were also looking to challenge for the title.
Next, Islam Makhachev should fight who?
Sean Brady may move to lighter weight after brutal loss
Brady, who had just won a submission match against former champion Leon Edwards with an incredible performance, was then paired up with Morales, a fellow contender.
With a win over the Ecuadorian, the American would’ve likely secured himself the next 170lb title shot as it would have been his fourth win in a row against high level competition.
Brady was knocked down by Morales during the first round, his only loss in professional football.
After a devastating loss for his hopes of winning the title, the 33-year old has revealed that, depending on the next offer he receives in the welterweight category, he may consider moving down to the lighter division.
“I might try to go to 155lbs,”Brady spoke to SteadyPicks
“There’s a lot of good a– matchups at 155lbs. But it also depends on what they want to give me at 170lbs,” Brady continued.
Brady began his professional MMA career at lightweight. However, he soon moved up to welterweight. Since then, he has only competed in 170lbs.
