Aaron Rodgers injury update: Steelers QB provides details on requirements to return

Aaron Rodgers used Wednesday as a chance to rehab his fractured left wrist that has put his status for the Steelers’ Week 12 matchup with the Bears in doubt. Rodgers, after his practice, told reporters that he feels better in three days. He sustained the injury during the first half of Pittsburgh’s Week 11 victory over Cincinnati. Rodgers stated that he focused his attention on rehabilitation for one day. “Will attempt to return to the field tomorrow, and see how things go.” Rodgers wants to play the upcoming Pittsburgh game against Chicago Bears. However, he has to clear a few hurdles before he can play. Rodgers must clear three hurdles to be considered fit to play, as Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin explained on Tuesday. These are pain tolerance, safety, and performance. Rodgers’s biggest obstacle is the one that stands out above the others.

Rodgers said, “It’d be safety.” He has endured many injuries in the 21 years of his career, including a broken finger on his right hand. Rodgers has to show that he’s able to protect his self, just as Tomlin and Rodgers have said. Tomlin said previously that Rodgers’ condition for Sunday could be determined by his Friday practice. Rodgers did not say when a decision would be made.

He said, “I’m going to leave it up to Mr. Tomlin.” Rodgers has said he’s still trying to find a brace he can wear while on the field for his wrist. He also said he felt “a lot” of pain when the injury happened. After leaving the halftime win of Pittsburgh over Cincinnati, Rodgers underwent tests that confirmed he would not require surgery.

Mason Rudolph, if Rodgers cannot play this Sunday for the Steelers, is expected to start his first game in over two years. Rudolph scored a touchdown and went 12 of 16, 127 yard, during the second half. This was the Steelers’ 34-12 win over the Steelers after a modest 10-6 halftime lead. Tomlin said that Rudolph had shown that he was capable of winning football during his time with the Steelers.

Anyone who has followed Rodgers’ career shouldn’t be surprised to see him try to play against Bears. Rodgers returned to practice in 2023 despite having torn his left Achilles in Week 1. Rodgers had played the majority of last season with a fractured right thumb a year before. Rodgers is no stranger to playing through injury, but he may have an extra motivation this Sunday. After all, the Bears have played an important role in his career, dating back to when he was with the Packers. While the Packers-Bears rivalry is one of NFL’s greatest, it was not as intense during Rodgers 15 years at Green Bay. Rodgers won 25 out of 30 starts he made against the Bears. This includes the playoffs. He yelled out “I own you!” in 2021 after scoring a touchdown on the ground in Chicago. Bears fans, who had grown sick of watching him slash their team into pieces year after year.

Rodgers is adamant that “bygones should be bygones” when it comes to the Bears. Rodgers called the Packers-Bears rivalry a “great rivalry.” When I first arrived in Green Bay the Bears were leading the series. When I left the Packers led. When I left, the Packers did. [Jordan Love] has taken over, it’s gotten better. I hope that those fans put the past behind them. They can do it, I am sure of it. But I wouldn’t count on them doing so.” Rodgers is in a position to become the Steelers’ second starting quarterback to ever win a game at Chicago. Since 1960, Steelers games in Chicago are 1-6. The Steelers’ lone win was in 1995, as then-Steelers’ quarterback Neil O’Donnell guided Pittsburgh to a 38-34 overtime victory against the Windy City. City. Pittsburgh (6-3), facing a Chicago team hot on the heels of a 0-2 debut, has won seven out of eight games in its last 8 matches. Ben Johnson’s first-year offense has played a major role in the Bears’ recent victory. It is led by Caleb Williams at quarterback, D’Andre Swift at running back, Kyle Monangai as wideout, and Rome Odunze, the team’s wideout.

Steelers are always on the hunt for a title, but this year the Bears think they’re able to achieve that goal. Chicago has not been to the Super Bowl in 2006 and their only Super Bowl victory took place this season, 40 years ago. Odunze told reporters that they were aiming for this. We’re hoping to do it this season and the next season. We just have to get things in order and be prepared to achieve this, which starts with our daily work.
