The punishment was announced on Monday and follows a controversial on-field incident. In the fourth quarter of a game on Sunday, Chase was spotted spitting on Ramsey. Ramsey then reportedly punched Chase and grabbed his face mask in response. Ramsey was ejected from the match. The NFL confirmed that the suspension had been issued as a result of a rule which addresses “any act contrary to generally understood principles on sportsmanship.” Chase refused to admit to the allegations despite the video footage from the Cincinnati television station. This was after the Bengals’ 34-12 loss. He refused to speak to reporters on Monday.open the image galleryJalen Ramsey responded to Chase spitting him off by punching him (AP).Curiously enough, Bill Vinovich informed a pool journalist after the game “that officials did not see anything of that nature at all.” Zac Taylor, the Bengals’ coach who had spoken to Chase prior to this announcement, has defended his athlete. “It’s like we are trying to make something out of this situation. It’s the only thing that’s kind of upset me as I’m sitting in here,” Taylor stated. “For a guy that has done everything we can to build our organization around, he’s been awesome. Not perfect. I’m not perfect. Trust me, I made plenty of mistakes yesterday (that) people don’t see on camera. Unfortunately, it was. He’s going to have to own up for that. It will be a journey for him.Chase will miss Bengals’ next home game against New England as a result. He has the right of appeal. According to the NFL Players Association, his salary will be reduced by at least $448333.33. This is the second time this season that the NFL has penalized a player who spits, after Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive tackle Jalen Caren was initially suspended for a game for an act similar against Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Dak Precott. Carter was ultimately fined for a week but did not miss any games. The Bengals are currently 3-7, after three consecutive losses.
