Oleksandr Usyk has handed back his WBO world title belt – and as a result given up his status as undisputed heavyweight champion.
Practically, everyone knows that Usyk remains the only heavyweight champion. Fabio Wardley, his WBO mandatory is now on his tail. So he decided to give up a belt from his four major governing bodies.
He retains his WBA Super, WBC and IBF Belts as well as the Ring Magazine Title which is generally awarded to top-ranked fighters at any weight. Usyk, whose boxing future is uncertain, has decided to not move forward as WBO champion.
