Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s 30-27 loss to the Carolina Panthers and was initially listed questionable to return, but he ultimately did not return to the game. After the game, Raheem said that he had no update on Penix. Penix suffered the injury during a third down sack and slammed the helmet, looking frustrated. He was able leave the field by himself and went straight to the blue medical tent when the special team punted.
Cousins started last season and lost his first start of the year. Before this week, Cousins had played in two other games. He was 26 of 38 for 202 yards in both games. There were no touchdowns or interceptions. Cousins completed six passes in 14 attempts on Sunday for 48 yards. Penix, who left the game before it was over, had gone 13 of 16 for 175 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Penix left the game with the Falcons leading 21-19.
Penix’s history of knee injuries is well-documented. He tore both his ACLs in 2018 and 2020 before entering the NFL.
