Jalen Ramsey received an ejection from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 11 showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals following his altercation with wideout Ja’Marr Chase early in the fourth quarter. After a Bengals’ timeout, after failing to convince Pittsburgh’s defensive line to jump offsides during a fourth-down play, the altercation took place. However, the Bengals gained a first down after Ramsey, Steelers starting free safety, was given a penalty for unsportsmanlike behaviour after punching Chase after the game whistle. Ramsey was ejected, but the Bengals gained a first-down.
After the game, Ramsey’s and Chase’s accounts of what happened between them before the altercation were different. Ramsey claimed that Chase spit at him. Respectfully, I said “I don’t give a sh-t after that.” I’m a big fan of trash talk, s—talk, and other stuff. I enjoy that part of it.”
The scuffle between Ramsey and Chase was largely civil. Ramsey stated that the situation changed later in the match. Ramsey said that as soon as Chase spit it was “f— this”. He also accused Chase earlier in the match of trying to crack-block him. “I ain’t gonna tolerate this part of it.” Chase has denied that he spit on Ramsey. Ramsey hopes the NFL investigates this incident with “due diligence.”
Chase replied, “I’m never going to speak to him.” “We kept going back and forward the entire time. I’m certain something got under his sleeve. … I didn’t spit anyone.” Ramsey was ejected as the Steelers held a lead of 20-9. Pittsburgh also played without its starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers who suffered a left-hand injury shortly before halftime. Mason Rudolph led the Steelers’ offense to a field goal during his first possession with Rodgers out at quarterback. Despite Ramsey being absent, the Steelers were able to win 34-12 with two defensive touchdowns. Pittsburgh, now at 6-4, is still ahead of Baltimore in the AFC North standings.
