In the Free State as well as North West, Gauteng Mpumalanga KwaZulu-Natal and southern Limpopo, widespread rain and showers is expected. SAWS has issued a Orange Level 9 alert for disrupting rain in Gauteng and the eastern North West. It also includes southwestern Mpumalanga. Significant impacts of flooding are expected over those areas and may result in some flooding of roads and settlements and danger to life, especially around fast-flowing streams,— Lehlohonolo Thobela, forecasterHe added that damaging winds, hail, and excessive lightning are expected, with the possibility of heavy downpours that may lead to localised flooding. Pretoria, and parts of the north of the city are at risk. Mpumalanga province is also at risk, and a Yellow Level 4 alert has been issued. “We’re expecting a Yellow Level 4 warning of severe thunderstorms, which may also lead to hail, as well as the possibility of damaging winds over most parts of the central and eastern parts of Limpopo into the north of Mpumalanga,” Thobela explained. He also said the central and north parks of KwaZulu Natal will experience disruptive rain. “Significant impacts of flooding are expected over those areas and may result in some flooding of roads and settlements and danger to life, especially around fast-flowing streams,” He said. Ekurhuleni emergency services have warned residents of Boksburg not to use the Trichardt Bridge or other areas because they are flooded. Tshwane also warned residents to avoid Rabie and End Street, in Centurion because low-lying Bridges are closed and flooded. Joburg also reported obstructions like trees that fell in Newlands and Bergbron as well as other areas such Phiri and Nasrec. Also, they have reported overflows on the N12 East Freeway in the Protea Industrial Park Area. Three major accidents occurred in Sandton, Soweto and one fatal accident happened on Malibongwe Drive. “These reports underscore the dire need for heightened road safety. We repeat our critical advice, do not cross flooded roads as water can hide deep holes and powerful currents,” JMPD.
