Jack Della Maddalena lost to Islam Makhachev in a unanimous decision, but he watched as the Russian took his second Octagon championship after his success at lightweight.
Della Maddalena was unable to counter the dominating wrestling assault of Makhachev, which included four takedowns. He lost his title on the first attempt.
And in a comment sure to ruffle the Perth native’s feathers, his attempt at defending gold was ranked as one of the worst in promotional history.
