Benn and Eubank’s fathers had met in two British superfights during the 1990s. Chris Eubank Sr. won the 1990 WBO middleweight championship, while Nigel Benn and Nigel Eubank drew in their 1993 rematch. Eubank Jr. won the Fight of the Years in April. Benn, who is much bigger, was able to dominate the rematch on Saturday by using smart boxing. Eubank appeared to be stuck in the first gear most of the time, boxing along the ropes and moving backwards. Benn, however, was aggressive and committed in the fight. Benn, who was aggressive and committed to the attack, absorbed Eubank’s counter shots when they were thrown.
Eubank managed to win the count but was knocked out a second time when a chopping right handed connected. Eubank beat the count again and seconds later the bell rang. But a 10-7-round only increased the disparity in the official scorecards which read 119 107, 116 110 and 118 108.
Benn often outmuscled Eubank in clinch, despite Eubank being the larger man. Eubank appeared to be 36 years old, and with almost 40 professional fights in his record, it is possible the wear and tear of time caught up with him.
Benn has now defeated all of his opponents as a professional and gotten revenge on Eubank.
