NFL: New York Giants fire head coach Brian Daboll after defeat to Chicago Bears | NFL News

The New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll following Sunday’s defeat by the Chicago Bears. This was the fourth consecutive loss for the team.
Joe Schoen, the General Manager of the Giants, will continue in his position and be in charge of the search for a replacement head coach. The Giants had led the Bears 24-20 in Week 10 but were defeated by the Bears. They are now 2-8 under Daboll and heading for their third straight losing campaign.

In a statement, President John Mara and Chairman Steve Tisch stated that they had discussed the direction the franchise was taking on the field and decided it would be in their best interests to change the head coach.
“The last few seasons were nothing but disappointing and we haven’t met our expectations for the franchise. We are aware of the frustrations our fans feel, and will do everything we can to improve on this.
“We thank Coach Daboll and his contribution to our organisation. We wish all the very best to the Daboll Family in the future. We wish the Daboll family all the best in the future. The Giants’ second significant lead was blown Sunday. They had led the Denver Broncos 19-0, then 26-8 before losing 33-32 in Week Seven. Sunday’s humbling loss to the Bears felt like an inevitable end.”In 2022, the Giants believed that Daboll could revive a team, especially its offense, which had been limping along in irrelevance for the better part of a decade. He had played a key role in Josh Allen’s success in Buffalo. They wanted him to work with Daniel Jones, hoping to get similar results from a quarterback who was struggling to meet the expectations of a 6th overall draft pick.

“It didn’t happen, at least in the long run. Though the failure to fix a perennially-debilitating offense line would also prove a defining factor.Daboll’s improved ball security helped his play-caller who was prone to turnovers, and Jones had a career year in his debut. Saquon barkley was an incredible player, and that certainly helped.A season-ending injury to Jones in 2023 would derail his progression in New York and the former Duke was never the same after that. Jones had signed a $4-year, $160 million deal with the Giants prior to the start of the season. However, Schoen was forced to regret the Giants’ decision to invest in their controversial quarterback when Barkley left for the Eagles during free agency.

Daboll Schoen and the Giants had to start from scratch when Jones, Schoen, and Daboll were benched in mid-November 2024 for his poor play. After being released and temporarily joining the Minnesota Vikings, Jones’s situation was reversed.Jones, who has inspired the Indianapolis Colts into an 8-2 start in the NFL as one the NFL’s best comebacks and a damning reflection on Daboll’s offensive system in New York, is now credited with inspiring the Indianapolis Colts. While rookie quarterback Jaxson dart has brought the much-needed juice and spark back to a team that had been lacking both for so long, it was clear that a change was needed. Some may say Schoen could have easily followed him to the exit. “Time will tell.”
