Matthew Stafford was a standout in Sunday’s 42-26 win over the San Francisco 49ers by the Los Angeles Rams. Stafford won a different award, even though he hasn’t yet been awarded the MVP. The Rams’ quarterback was named Tom Brady’s Week 10 LFG Game Player of the Day for his stellar performance. He completed 24 of his 36 passes for 280 yard and four touchdowns. Stafford helped the Rams to an early 21-0 lead in the second quarter. Los Angeles’ defense also played with a 2-score advantage for almost the entire game. Stafford may not have had the best numbers, but he still looked to be in total control and command of Sunday’s match. Stafford’s vintage Stafford play was a sidearm to the running back Kyren Willams at one time and a touchdown to Colby Parkinson. The elder quarterback was able to connect with the youngsters. “You did it all today — sidearm throws, no looks and I saw the TikTok dance,” Brady remarked in his conversation with Stafford.Adding to Stafford’s day, his second touchdown pass of the game was his 400th of his career, making him the ninth quarterback in NFL history to reach that mark. As he ran on the field, Stafford left his head-coach, Sean McVay holding a high five during a celebration. Tom Brady’s LFG Game Player of the Day: Rams QB Matthew Stafford Despite the fact that the Rams forgot how to celebrate, Brady felt they did nothing wrong. Brady even said on the broadcast that the Rams were the NFL’s top offensive and defensive team. Brady asked, “What can the Rams do better?” Stafford stated, “I believe we can improve a bit on third-down.” “I missed a shot today. “I missed one today. [Terrance Ferguson] It’s a good chance for a big win. The defense had no post-player. You want them all back. You just keep focusing on not turning over the ball, being explosive, efficient, scoring in red zones, and all the other things you do to improve in each of these phases.”As Stafford lamented his missed third-down pass to Ferguson late in first half, it was actually the Rams who had a good day on third-downs. They converted on 5 out of 8 attempts. However, they were 11th on the list of third-down conversion rates, with 41%. They could improve on this going forward, even though they were successful on Sunday. It’s hard to find a flaw in the Rams’ performance on Sunday, as they improved their record to 7-2. Simply put, the Rams are rolling — and Stafford knows it. Stafford said that the Rams offensive performance was “great”. “We’ve been alternating personnels. It was a very good job. When we are able to do this, I am really comfortable. Our players are making plays. I’m glad to be part of this. It’s so much fun when you get to orchestrate a drive and you’re in and out of personnel — 13, 11, 12 or whatever it is. So it was a lot fun.”A few of those expected playmakers helped the Rams win on Sunday. Puka Nacua turned a screen-pass into a 22 yard score with five catches and 64 yards. Davante Williams had a rushing score of 73 yards. Davante Adams caught six passes for 77 yard. All four Rams tight ends (Parkinson Ferguson Tyler Higbee Davis Allen) contributed to the Rams success, with 10 receptions totaling 114 yard and two touchdowns. Stafford is able to control the play by using the tight end’s contributions. Stafford said, “That’s our recipe for success.” “We did a good job.” The players up front did a great job of protecting. We have guys outside who can make plays. Both Davante, and Puka, had great games today [and] All of our tight ends. They’re getting yards when they drop out from there and check it to our rears. We’ve had a lot of fun.Stafford now has the best stats in the league. With his performance on the Sunday, Stafford extended his lead for touchdown passes. He has now thrown 25 in this season. He was also leading the league for passing yards per game (268.4) when he entered Sunday’s games. Stafford has managed to play his best football as he approaches 40. After a camp filled with injuries, Stafford has managed to play the best football of his career. Stafford may be around for a little longer if he continues to perform the way he does. Brady anticipates this. Brady joked with Stafford: “You are only 37 so you still have eight years left to play.” I can’t wait.
