The UFC main event between Randy Brown and Gabriel Bonfim was marred by controversy.
On Saturday, the UFC Apex hosted its first main event featuring welterweights.
Gabriel Bonfim, after a fiercely competitive first round sent Brown to the floor with a stunning knee in the clinch.
For a short time, it appeared that Randy Brown had been knocked out. Brown was awake as soon as the strike hit him. He raised his arms to block any subsequent strikes.
The fight was stopped by the referee Mark Smith before Bonfim had a chance to land more punches. This caused some controversy.
Amid complaints of an ‘early stoppage’, a UFC analyst explains why the referee called the fight off when he did.
