Bayern Munich prove they are Champions League contenders while injury bug gives PSG reasons to worry

Bayern Munich’s 2-1 win over PSG on Tuesday extended their unbeaten season start to 16 matches, all victories. Vincent Kompany and his Bayern Munich team have achieved a great result. It is arguably the most important win in Kompany’s career. Harry Kane’s 22 goals across all competitions has grabbed the attention, but the fact that PSG finished with 10 players was an opportunity to show the improvement in the defense after the additions of Jonathan Tah and Luis Diaz from Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern made a few transfers in the summer but the additions of Tah, Luis Diaz and others have been significant. Time will tell if they can make it to the top again, but for now, they are on the right path. Ousmane Demobele was forced to leave the match in only 25 minutes after what looked like a hamstring strain. Dembele, who had missed seven matches across all competitions due to a thigh problem, was making only his second appearance since returning. He will likely miss more games in the future. PSG are without their key Frenchman, as Desire Doue is also injured. Achraf hakimi was injured in the match after Luis Diaz made a reckless tackle. Hakimi’s injuries are not known, but he can move forward and defend with ease, which is a big blow to the Parisians. Diaz, speaking of Diaz…

Luis Diaz: Two sides of the same coinWith two goals in the opening 35 minutes, Luis Diaz demonstrated how his signing had a significant impact on Bayern’s unbeaten record this season. Diaz, who was fast and agile in his counterattacking, beat Lucas Chevalier to score a goal. He then took the ball away from Marquinhos for Bayern to go up 2-0. It was his tackle of Hakimi at the end the first half that nearly cost Bayern victory. Kompany’s yellow card was upgraded after a review to a red. However, he made adjustments to ensure that his team remained on top.
Tom Biischof was brought in to replace Serge Gnabry after the first half. He did his best to slow down PSG while Manuel Neuer tried hard. Kane was also forced to play as a goalkeeper as Bayern worked to contain PSG. Manuel Neuer, who faced eight shots on target during the second half, only lost by one. Bayern has a lot of credentials. They’ve already beaten Chelsea in Champions League and then followed it up with an away win over PSG. Bayern has allowed three goals, which is the fewest of all the teams that have played in the league phase. Only Real Madrid, Tottenham and Arsenal have conceded fewer than Bayern. It’s not hard to see that Kompany and his team are destroying everything in their way. Bayern and PSG are the two top scorers of the league after this result.

Bayern also improves their depth by bringing in young players like Aleksandar Pavlovic, Lennart Carl, and others. This will be helpful if injuries occur. It is easy to forget how well Bayern performs without Jamal Musiala. When he returns, they can make another big step.
