Ford said the following about Davis: “He’s doing great. Everything’s good. That’s why we’re trying to find out what’s going on.”Davis’s last bout was fought in March and ended with a draw. Davis had taken a knee, but it was not determined that he had been knocked out. Davis immediately ran to his corner and wiped hair grease out of his eyes. He was not penalized for ceasing to fight. A rematch between Davis, the unbeaten lightweight champion, and Roach Jr. was scheduled to take place in august. Davis chose to fight Paul instead.
