Hannah Hampton, the 24-year-old England goalkeeper who missed the 2-1 loss to Brazil on Saturday at the Etihad stadium due to a minor elbow injury, could return to play against Australia at Pride Park in their second October friendly match. Khiara Keating earned her first England cap as a result.
She said that Hampton is doing really well and has checked all the boxes. There’s a training session that Hampton has to complete today but everything looks good.
“We have one day left and today is a great session for her.” If all goes well, she should be available for tomorrow.
She’s a great goalkeeper. A goalkeeper’s first job is to prevent the ball from going into the net.
“She is also very good on her feet. She can kick long distances and play possession game. This is a strength of hers.”England has been behind in their last four matches, including their comeback victories at the Euros against Sweden, Italy, Spain and Brazil on Saturday.

England’s homecoming after Euro 2025 was a defeat as England conceded 2 goals in 18 minutes in their first match against Brazil.
Wiegman, who has been accused by some of the Lionesses starting too slowly, disagrees and admits that she loves the challenge posed by top countries such as Brazil and Australia. She added: “I believe the Spain match we started well and could have scored 1-0. We could have scored 1-0 in the Italy game. We didn’t do well in the Sweden game. We started the France match really well, and we scored a goal.”I do not agree that slow starts are the norm – we simply got behind.”Yes, I agree that we did not start well on Saturday. We needed to be more physical. The players also felt that way. We’ll give it our all to make tomorrow a better start. We are very excited to be able to play tomorrow. We want top teams to challenge us. This will show where we can improve. The last time these two teams met was at the 2023 World Cup Semi-Final in Sydney, where England defeated Australia’s home hopes with a 3-1 score to advance to the final. Ella Toone scored on that day, and she believes Australia is out to avenge themselves on Tuesday.”We are England and we want to win each game. There are no friendly games in football. It’s hard to lose a match, but there is a game coming up to make things right. We’re going out there to give a great performance and hopefully win.
