According to a recent report, LSU informed Brian Kelly, the head football coach of its intent to fire him. After a disappointing season of 5-3 in Baton Rouge, the Tigers failed to live up to high expectations. LSU fired Kelly as a result of a contentious meeting on Sunday. ESPN’s Pete Thamel says that the school is likely to tell his team about Kelly’s dismissal this evening. Kelly is said owe a reported $54million buyout, but talks on the terms of Kelly’s departure will continue. The decision to relieve Kelly of his duties came after a 49-25 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday night, which marked the Tigers’ third defeat in their last four games. Kelly stated that the night was a disappointment. Any fan base would be disappointed. It’s my responsibility. LSU is a proud school and team. They were prepared to win and worked their tails off. It was evident in the first and not the second half. LSU informed Brian Kelly that it intended to dismiss him. The Tigers’ disappointing 5-3 record has failed to meet high expectations. It’s deserved but I need to change what’s going on inside my program. The few LSU fans that stayed to watch the end of the game on Saturday chanted ‘Fire Kelly.’ They got their wish a day later. Kelly, who signed a 10-year, $100 million contract when he was hired ahead of the 2022 season, departs the program with a 34-14 overall record and a 19-10 record in SEC play. His dismissal is just the latest in a series of axings in college football over the past few weeks. SEC rivals, the Florida Gators fired head coach Billy Napier after a 23-21 victory in the Swamp. Napier was in charge of the Gators for four seasons and finished with a record of 22-23. Napier’s firing comes one week after Penn State fired James Franklin as head coach.
