Lewis Hamilton has promised to be “quite aggressive” from third on the grid at the start of the Mexico City Grand Prix to try and achieve an “amazing’ first podium for his team. He will be aiming to take advantage of his best qualifying performance at Ferrari.
Hamilton, who has had a difficult first season with Ferrari, is now in the top three for the first 13-month period. He believes that there are finally some signs of progress.Hamilton, who achieved his best Grand Prix performance since Singapore in 2024, said: “I am so happy to be among the top three.”
“It took me an entire year to reach this point. It was a mountainous climb.” Finally, I feel like I am able to work with my engineers and the rest of the team. We are able to really extract performance from the vehicle.
“It’s been an extremely difficult year and I cannot believe that it has taken me so long to reach this point, but I am happy with the journey I’ve had and how much I’ve learned.”

Hamilton thinks he holds the best start grid position. The reason is that third place is located to the left of the grid and has a much cleaner racing line. It is also one of longest runs of the season, with 830m to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez first turn. That allows for slipstreaming for the following cars.

Hamilton said, “For a brief moment I was the P2 [on the grid] “The inside isn’t that great, it’s very dirty. So I’m thankful to be third. I hope I can capitalize on this.”Charles is a brand new person. [soft] Lando is also a good option, but P3 seems like a good starting point because it allows you to tow. So, I will be aggressive. I want to make some progress tomorrow.Hamilton said in the press conference: “I definitely wanted to be racy.”I have nothing to lose but he [Norris] does. I am quite sure that I will act aggressively.”And I hope we’ll get close enough to fight a good battle.”
