LOUISVILLE (Ky.) — BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, Duke’s Cameron Boozer, and Duke’s Jeremy McLaren set a high standard to be cleared, as the No. The Class of 2025’s No.2 and No.3 prospects each dropped more than 30 points in their exhibition debuts this week. The Class of 2025 prospects No. 2 and 3 both dropped over 30 points each in their exhibition debuts.
Darryn Peterson, the 247Sports recruiting rankings’ No. 1 player, provided the answer on Friday night. Darryn Peterson, the No. 1 player on the 247Sports recruitment rankings, provided the answer Friday night. The 6-foot-6 Kansas guard made a big impression in his debut game. The No. 19 Jayhawks defeated the No. The No. 11 Louisville Cardinals were defeated by the No.

Kansas coach Bill Self stated that “he played almost perfect offensively in the first half.”

Stathead says that Kansas has only ever made six 3-pointers or more in a road match against a ranked team seven times.
Peterson completed the task in just one-half.
Kansas players have never recorded five steals and six 3-pointers all in the same game. Peterson accomplished this feat during his exhibition debut.
On the road. A top-15 opponent.
Canton native Peterson scored 24 points during the first half, as the Jayhawks jumped out to a 46-30 edge. Peterson’s only setback was cramps, which began at halftime when he played in his first college game.
Peterson stated, “I have to be able put two halves of a puzzle together.” “I started out hot, and then my whole body shut down on me. It’s time to start again. “But I’m just pleased we won.”
Peterson stated that his first taste of college basketball at a high-major was “definitely a lot more intense than everything I have experienced to date.”
Jayhawks entered with a chipped shoulder.
Kansas’ No. It is the lowest ranking the Jayhawks have had in the AP Top 25 since the 2008/09 season. This marks the first year since 2011/12 that they are not a top-10 team. Kansas’ greatness has been questioned after three consecutive first round NCAA Tournament losses.
The program isn’t its usual elite self after winning the 2022 championship. The Jayhawks’ rudderless offensive has played right into the hands the Big 12’s toughest competition at the top.
Peterson demonstrated Friday why he might be the answer.
Peterson: “We’ve been playing against eachother in practice for months.” “We were ready to play against someone else. We were excited for this match. They had us ranked higher than them, so we went in as underdogs. And we won. “That was the biggest thing for us.”
Self, however, viewed the match as an exhibition. Peterson, despite the fact that the outcome of this game was not yet determined, left for good at 4:53 after only 25 minutes. It may not feel like a game when he spends less time on floor.
Peterson’s performance was impressive, even with a small sample size. He was 9 out of 15 on the floor. The difficulty of some of those shots was impressive.
What Self thought about Peterson’s Performance
Self said that despite Peterson’s great performance, the game did not showcase all of his abilities. Peterson was able to score two goals and make five turnovers. This shows that he is not only a great on-ball player, but also a good distributor.
Self said: “He can both play and play without the ball.” He can play to generate offense for others. He didn’t score in the first-half tonight, because we wanted him to. He was on a bit of a heat wave. He’s an experienced guard, who is able to see and force help. He will get someone a good shot almost every time.
Peterson was particularly impressive in that he made six of ten 3-pointers in a hostile environment, especially when compared with fellow 5-star guard Mikel BROWN JR. Louisville’s prized freshman struggled to score a basket until the 13th minute and twelve seconds mark in the second period.
Brown’s disappointing 2-of-15 performance was not surprising. It turns out that playing your first college basketball match in front of 15,885 people against a top-20 team is a challenge. Peterson’s performance was all the more impressive because of this obvious truth.
Freshman of The Year Race will be intense
Boozer scored 33 points with 12 rebounds in Duke’s first exhibition. The 33 points and 12 rebounds were impressive in Duke’s exhibition debut. Dybantsa had 30 points and 7 rebounds, but it was in only 32 minutes of play against a Nebraska team expected to finish near the bottom half in the Big Ten.

Peterson’s outburst on the road happened in less time, against a team that was expected to compete for the ACC championship. He was No. He was the No.
In 2022, Ochai Agabaji was the last Kansas player who made six 3-pointers on the road against a ranked team. He was also named Final Four’s most outstanding player after KU won the NCAA Tournament. Peterson’s ability to get the Jayhawks back there was evident even in October.
Pat Kelsey of Louisville said, “He has a very special talent.” “He has great athleticism, length and size.” Quick with the ball and a great shot-maker. He is a very confident player. He’s very good.”
