Max Verstappen won the second practice session for the Mexico City Verstappen had skipped the first practice, as most teams were using rookies to meet regulations. He was immediately at the front and beat Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc with 0.153s.
Kimi Antonelli, of Mercedes, overcame a problem and finished third, ahead of Lando Norris who was only 0.251s slower than Verstappen. Piastri, the sole title contender, ran in first practice, but his extra time on the track did not translate into a strong pace, as he ended 0.840s behind the Dutchman.
Red Bull was the only team that brought an upgrade to their Monza track this weekend. This floor marked the beginning Verstappen’s title charge at the start of September.
Yuki Tsunoda finished seventh, which highlighted Red Bull’s strong pace. This was the first time this year that he had consistently finished outside of top 10 on Fridays.

Lewis Hamilton was the fastest driver on the softs but only 3 tenths ahead of Verstappen. George Russell was 6th, Fernando Alonso was 8th and Lance Stroll was 10th. Carlos Sainz was 9th, continuing his good form. His teammate Alex Albon touched the barrier at the last corner.
