Long-time bantamweight contender Pedro Munhoz wants to part ways with the UFC.
The 20-10 (2 NC) veteran has fought inside the Octagon 22 times during his 12-year stint in MMA’s premier promotion.
Pedro Munhoz is seeking a new challenge after losing his past three fights and recording just one win in his last seven attempts.
Pedro Munhoz issues a statement
On Wednesday, Pedro Munhoz revealed he’s in talks to end his UFC career in a social media statement.
The 39-year-old plans to test himself outside of the UFC if Dana White grants his release request.
“Since 2014, I’ve been part of the UFC, building my name, proving myself, and showing what I’m capable of inside that octagon,” Munhoz wrote on Instagram.
“After 32 fights, I can proudly say I’ve never been submitted or knocked out. I’ve always stepped in there with heart, discipline, and respect for the game
“There comes a point in life when you don’t just stay comfortable, you take control of what’s next. Right now, I feel it’s time to take a new direction, explore different opportunities, and focus on other important areas of my life. I’ve asked the UFC to release me, and I’m currently in the process of becoming a free agent
“I’m not retiring yet. Still hungry. Still focused. Still ready to put on great fights and make statements.”
Pedro Munhoz’s career highlights
Pedro Munhoz’s UFC career peaked when he knocked out Cody Garbrandt in March 2019.
At that point, ‘No Love’ was fresh off his bantamweight title reign and still considered one of the best 135lb fighters on the planet.
Munhoz’s other high-profile wins came against Rob Font, Jimmie Rivera, and Chris Gutiérrez.
The Brazilian fan favorite has also shared the Octagon with Marlon Vera, Sean O’Malley, Dominick Cruz, Jose Aldo, Frankie Edgar, and Aljamain Sterling.
If this is the end, Munhoz will walk away from the UFC with 10 wins, 10 losses, and two no-contests.
