Score: New England 14, New York 27
Patriots Takeaway Drake Maye is Not the MVP But His Play Makes New England eliteMaye is putting together a spectacular second campaign. He is now among the NFL’s best quarterbacks. He’s not the MVP of the NFL, despite what Patriots fans continue to shout each weekend. He doesn’t have to be. Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams is playing quarterback at a much higher level this season than anyone else. Jonathan Taylor, the Colts running back, is currently the best player in the NFL. He’s on his way to winning the triple crown as the NFL’s leading back for carries, rushing yards and touchdowns. Maye, however, is focusing on what matters most, leading the Patriots 10-2 to the best record in the NFL. New England quarterback Maye makes those around better, like a great quarterback. In the matchup on Thursday, the third-round draft pick from last year completed 73.5 per cent of his passes. His ability to extend plays was also Mahomesian. The Patriots’ story isn’t only a good one; they’re Super Bowl candidates. Maye is the reason for the team’s newfound success. TreVeyon Henderson RB, New England PatriotsOver these last two weeks Henderson has cemented himself as Patriots’ No. 1 RB. Rhamondre Stewardson continues to be sidelined by a turf toe. When Stevenson, 27, is cleared to return from injury and rejoins the team’s lineup, he will be in a supporting role as Henderson is clearly better suited for the position of lead running back. The 38th pick of this year didn’t make the same kind of explosive plays on Thursday as he did Sunday, when he made two big runs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Henderson did show a certain level of toughness by slamming between the tackles and proving he is not a one-dimensional running. The rookie back has racked up 33 carries in the last five games for a total of 209 yards. He also scored five touchdowns. He should be featured.
Jets Takeaway – Justin Fields’s Start No Longer Serves Any PurposeEach and every week, the Jets struggle with moving the ball. It’s time for a quarterback change. Fields has been in the lineup for several weeks now, but what is his purpose? In four out of Jets last five games, veteran quarterback Fields has thrown less than 130 yards. New York lacks timing, rhythm and cohesion in its offense, which is why it’s ranked among the bottom five of the league. With five first round draft picks available in the two next classes and a 2-8 record, the Jets will be evaluating quarterbacks for the foreseeable future. Justin Fields’ is not the solution. Tyrod Taylor may be a good backup, but that’s not enough. Brady Cook could be brought in from the Jets practice squad to provide some spark.
Loser: WR AD Mitchell, New York JetsFields could have looked a little better if Adonai Mitchell actually caught more than one pass. New York Jets WR AD Mitchell is a loser. The field would have looked better had Adonai Mitchell caught more than just one pass. The wide receiver acquired from the Indianapolis Colts instead dropped three passes. The snags weren’t all easy. Mitchell is too talented for him to continue having these breakdowns. The Colts wanted to get rid of Mitchell because he was making mistakes. Cleveland Browns already had a deal to get Mitchell’s services if Mitchell was not a “throw-in” as part of Sauce Gardner’s deal. Talent can only take a player so high. Mitchell is a player with immense potential that has yet to be realized. It doesn’t really matter if Mitchell never gets it all together.
